The Mating Of The Yorkies....Rascals View....

Not long ago I started to get that strange feeling again, that feeling where I am strangely drawn to Alphie, but that same feeling that makes me very annoyed at the sight of Beanie. I can't stand that dog at the best of times, but when I feel like this I just have to give her a hard time.

The last time I felt like this Alphie just wanted to play, this time I felt for sure that there was something more than friendship between us and I hoped that we could be more than friends. We would make the cutest couple, I just knew it and I thought that if I kept backing into him and teasing him, then he would soon want what I had to offer.

Alphie; the love of my life

We Suspect That Rascal, The Yorkshire Terrier Is Pregnant....

We have our suspicions that Rascal is expecting puppies. Her titties have swollen, which I admit they usually do after she has been in season, but not only that, she is also looking really sorry for herself and is quite mopey which is unusual behaviour for her.

Rascal feeling sorry for herself
She seems to have lost interest in her food and does not want to play. For someone who wasn't keen on the idea of breeding the Yorkies, I am feeling surprisingly excited. I have spent a lot of time learning what to expect throughout her Yorkie pregnancy and what her needs will be and I am hoping now we suspect Rascal is pregnant that Catherine will take it upon herself to learn these things too, but if not I will be constantly monitoring the dog.

I am hoping that Rascal having puppies will be an educational experience as well as an amazing thing to witness!

What Rascal, The Yorkshire Terrier, Thought Of Alphie....

Alphie is a cutie
It was over a year ago when the family of the house went out one evening and returned with a wriggling, black and tan bundle of fluff that reminded me of a younger version of myself. There was a lot of excitement as this furry ball was introduced into the household, the funniest thing I remember was Roxy, a German Shepherd, being scared of the bundle, she has always been a wussy - she may look good, but she really is no credit to her breed!

I played it cool, after all I didn't believe that it was here to stay, how many cuties can live under one roof? And oh! he was cute! He wobbled around the house, not caring where he stuck his nose or what he sank his needle like teeth into, but I didn't mind, he was adorable; even to me.

The Mating Of The Yorkies....

It was around the beginning of June that I had my suspicions that it wouldn't be long before Rascal would be in season. She usually comes into heat every six to seven months and always gets feisty with it, so we have to watch her around the other female dogs when they start to give her attention that she doesn't want.
Alphie was a bit clueless as to what it was all about!
About a week later my suspicions were confirmed, as she started to bleed and as the vet had given the two Yorkies the all clear to mate, they could get down to business when the time was right - assuming Alphie was ready to step up and be a male dog.

It wasn't too long before Alphie started to notice that something was different about Rascal, although he couldn't quite put his paw on it. He took his level of playing up a notch and he couldn't leave her alone, - a sort of Yorkie flirting - we weren't even sure that he knew what it was all about as he just seemed to want to play chase and nip her back legs, which we put down to him still being young, although he was over a year old then.

Meet Alphie,The Yorkshire Terrier....

Alphie sporting his summer cut!
Meet Alphie, the soon to be Father of Rascals puppies. He has been a part of our family since he was nine weeks old and just like Rascal, he was a happy confident little Yorkie puppy, but that is where the character similarities end.

Alphie is cheeky, playful and a charmer, he is only fifteen months old now, but shows no sign of the bossiness of Rascal. He is an easy going Yorkie, with a surprisingly trusting nature, he loves everyone and thinks that everyone should love him too. Which to be honest most people do!

What Rascal, The Yorkshire Terrier, Has To Say For Herself....

Me (Rascal) and my chosen mistress
When I first chose Catherine as my mistress, I bet she had to pinch herself at how lucky she was to be taking me home with her. I remember taking a liking to the little girl when she came to my home with her Dad and Mum; she knelt on the carpet and spent time playing with me and my brothers and sisters. I played the hardest as I wanted to impress this scruffy little girl as I felt that we had a lot in common and I really wanted her to know that I had chosen her to be my mistress.

Meet Rascal, The Yorkshire Terrier....

Rascal, pregnant at almost four years old
Meet Rascal, the now pregnant Yorkie belonging to our daughter, Catherine. She was nine weeks old when we collected her and she was a happy and confident puppy right from the start. She was also a naughty and mischievous puppy, which is where she got her name from.

As a puppy she loved nothing better than  running off with things that she shouldn't have had, that included the dirty habit of snatching dirty laundry as I was sorting it. That was a habit that she thankfully grew out of and now sticks to playing with her toys.

Where The Story Starts....

The story behind Rascal and her pregnancy can be traced back to when my husband was a boy himself - blame the husband! When my husband was growing up he had a Yorkshire Terrier called Muffet and often entertained our children when they were younger - especially our daughter Catherine - with stories about the little dog and what she got up to; the stories were the start of our daughters first love - Yorkies.

From a ripe young age Catherine became obsessed with Yorkshire Terriers, learning what she could
about the breed. She also had her heart set on getting a little Yorkie of her own and when she was nine years old, her dream came true, it was at that age that we thought she was old enough - with our help - to take on the responsibility of looking after her own dog.
