Where The Story Starts....

The story behind Rascal and her pregnancy can be traced back to when my husband was a boy himself - blame the husband! When my husband was growing up he had a Yorkshire Terrier called Muffet and often entertained our children when they were younger - especially our daughter Catherine - with stories about the little dog and what she got up to; the stories were the start of our daughters first love - Yorkies.

From a ripe young age Catherine became obsessed with Yorkshire Terriers, learning what she could
about the breed. She also had her heart set on getting a little Yorkie of her own and when she was nine years old, her dream came true, it was at that age that we thought she was old enough - with our help - to take on the responsibility of looking after her own dog.
One of my husband and his familys favourite stories about Muffet is about the time she was pregnant and actually chose to give birth in my husbands bed, whilst he was sleeping. Apparently he awoke in the morning and the dog was snuggled into his back happily feeding her new puppies, which she had not had when he had gone to bed.

A cute story that any young girl would want to be a part of, so naturally once Catherine had her Yorkie, the next thing she wanted was for her to have puppies. Which at first we said no to.

It was after Zippy, our nineteen year old Bichon Frise died, that we decided we would get another small dog and a year later we got ourselves a new puppy, a male Yorkshire Terrier we named Alphie.

The Yorkies do get on really well together and Rascal, who is not the most tolerant dog when it comes to other dogs seems to be really fond of Alphie and shows it by letting him get away with chewing on her back legs and getting rough in general with her.

It was a few months after we got Alphie that people we know started to show interest in whether we were thinking of mating our two Yorkies and although I was not keen on the idea of breeding them for various reasons, I was outvoted by the rest of the family. What helped to sway me in the end was the fact that any puppies would be given good homes - family and friends including the vet showed interest in giving homes to our Yorkie puppies, as small dogs are not so easy to get here.

In the end I agreed on letting them have one litter of puppies together, on condition that the vet gave the dogs full bills of health before hand. It is also to be a one time happening with Alphie being castrated after doing the deed and Rascal being spayed after having the puppies.....

Meet Rascal....
Meet Alphie....
