Meet Alphie,The Yorkshire Terrier....

Alphie sporting his summer cut!
Meet Alphie, the soon to be Father of Rascals puppies. He has been a part of our family since he was nine weeks old and just like Rascal, he was a happy confident little Yorkie puppy, but that is where the character similarities end.

Alphie is cheeky, playful and a charmer, he is only fifteen months old now, but shows no sign of the bossiness of Rascal. He is an easy going Yorkie, with a surprisingly trusting nature, he loves everyone and thinks that everyone should love him too. Which to be honest most people do!

He has always been able to amuse himself without causing disruption. His favourite things to play with are probably empty water bottles, he seems to love the noise they make when he 'kills' them - I really don't have the heart to tell him that they are already dead! Throwing and chasing the water bottle lids will keep him amused for ages and when he has had enough he will hide them in his igloo - his soft, cosy, igloo like bed. He has yet to realize that the other dogs are not in the least bit interested in the water bottle lids and that it is me who removes them from his igloo whilst he is not looking!

Alphie seems to be part cat as he happily sleeps in cat like places and will try and climb out of the window rather than use the door, luckily we live in a single story house.

Still being young he's hasn't yet lost his puppy like ways. He is bright, alert and cheeky, although he can be a little dozy too. He knows to bring a toy if he wants to play fetch, but he hasn't quite got the hang of keeping an eye on where it lands and when it comes to looking for his toys once they are thrown, he is clueless. It amuses Rascal no end! Saying that though he has learned to do a lot more tricks than Rascal with the help of clicker training, he may get a bit mixed up at times, but he gets there in the end.

He is laid back, not obsessed with food or attention and rarely makes a noise. Although a sudden noise when he is sleeping can send him into a momentary barking fit, but hopefully he will grow out of that.

He gets excited with other dogs and wants to play, but sometimes he pushes his luck though and upsets the other dog. Something I am sure he will learn not to do as he gets older.

When he first met Rascal little did he know that he was going to be her little stud muffin and at Christmas when she was on heat he really didn't have a clue as to what she wanted him to do every time she backed into him. So like any young hot blooded male dog, he did what he thought he was supposed to do and chewed on her back legs, not to the amusement of Rascal.

It was a different story though when she started to go into season in mid June. He knew what to do then and he did himself proud. He flirted with her, spent a great deal of time with her and when she started backing into him, he stepped up to the mark and proudly did his bit.

Little did he know that once he had done the deed and there was a chance that Rascal was pregnant that it was off with the knackers! He said good bye to his gems on Tuesday 2nd June. I felt a little sad and the vet said that it made her a little sad too to castrate him, but it was the right thing to do and if Rascal was not pregnant then it was not meant to be.
